Orenda (Iroquois language) – A women empowerment program
Orenda is a mystical force present in all people that empowers them to affect the world, to change their own lives.
The average Indian woman has changed a lot in the last few decades. Women are now entering the workforce in large numbers. They are contributing a lot to the direct economy and are trailblazers in a variety of areas. Laws have been laid down for their well being but many are unaware of this.
There are several laws in India that give women the authority to fight against abuse, discrimination, gender based violence, harassment, indignities, etc. Being aware of these laws is the first step to fight injustice.
Knowing her rights and laws is the only solution for a woman fighting with internalized values of patriarchy and male dominance.
All young women about to step into the world should understand this program, wherein, we start with the law against sex determination, moving onto female foeticide, right to education, Dowry act, DV Act, PoSH Act at work, Equal Pay Act, and the Nirbhaya Act, to name a few.
This is an attempt at empowering them before they face life’s challenges. The laws are their weapons to fight against all forms of harassment.
